Where Were You on Sept 11, 2001?

I remember it just like it was yesterday. My husband urgently called me at home and told me to turn on the television. He told me we were being attacked and that I should turn on the television right away. He said that the Twin Towers were being attacked from aircraft. I quickly ran down stairs and turned the television on just in time to see the second tower collapse. I became immediately numb and sick to my stomach, knowing full well that thousands of people must still be in that building. Tears rolled down my eyes at the thought of the loss of innocent lives, people who unsuspectingly had seen their last day on this earth. The thought of the loved ones who will never again see their husbands or wives or their children was enough to bring anyone to tears and the feeling of helplessness surrounded me as I thought that there was nothing for me to do to help the situation. So, I prayed.

I prayed to God for the souls of the departed. I prayed to God for the families who lost their special someone. I prayed to God for the emergency police, firemen, rescuers, doctors, nurses and just the everyday heros who helped those who were injured and dying. I prayed to God for the evildoers and for justice and mercy for the repentant sinners.

I continued to watch television as the details of the hijacked plane that was headed for the Pentagon unfolded. Shock was the feeling! How could anyone be as cruel as to concoct such a devilish plan and for what valid reason? They didn’t like our lifestyle; they didn’t like our influence in the Muslim countries, so they come here to kill our people, all in the name of their God! What evil lurks in the minds of men to do such as this and what is their gain? No, these were not men of God but cowards who strike innocent people for their warped sense of justice. ‘Vengeance be mine saith the Lord.’

When I think of this day, I remember the tragedy but I also remember the heros. I remember everyday people who reached out to help those in need. I believe that we live in a noble country. We live in a country that continually reaches out to its fellow man in time of hurricane, tsunami, earthquake, epidemic and time of war with a helping hand.
Let us not forget that we were born in the image and likeness of God. This is a God of love, one that forgives the repentant and allows justice for those who remain in their evil state. May God have mercy on all of the souls of the lost victims of the crime and help the evildoers turn from their sins.

I want to send out special thanks for all the service men and women who fought for freedom and are still fighting for our freedom. May God Bless all of the families whose lives were changed forever by the events that took place on 9-11-2001.
